The federal decide who presided over the 2019 prison case in opposition to convicted sex-offender Jeffrey Epstein has grow to be the third decide to grant a Justice Division movement to unseal grand jury supplies and different undisclosed proof from the federal government’s investigative information.
U.S. District Decide Richard Berman of the Southern District of New York issued a four-page order Wednesday that decided that Congress — in passing the Epstein Files Transparency Act final month — clearly indicated that the supplies from his prison case needs to be publicly disclosed and that conventional guidelines of grand jury secrecy had been overridden by the act.

That is the third — and remaining — ruling on the Justice Division’s motions to elevate restrictions on supplies associated to prison investigations and prosecutions of Epstein and his convicted co-conspirator, Ghislaine Maxwell.
It comes at some point after Decide Paul Engelmayer granted the DOJ’s motion to launch grand jury supplies and different nonpublic proof from Maxwell’s prison case.

Decide Rodney Smith granted an identical request from the Justice Division for information related to the primary federal investigation of Epstein in Florida within the mid-2000s.
Berman, who presided over Epstein’s 2019 arraignment in New York and ordered him detained pending trial, burdened the necessity to defend the privateness and security of alleged victims if and when the information from the case are publicly disclosed by the DOJ.
“The Court docket hereby grants the Authorities’s movement in accordance with the Epstein Recordsdata Transparency Act and with the unequivocal proper of Epstein victims to have their determine and privateness protected,” Berman wrote.
Epstein died by suicide in a New York jail in August 2019 whereas awaiting trial.
